Transferring ownership of a microchipped pet is a straightforward process, but the steps depend on whether the microchip is already registered with SmartTrace or another database.

For Microchips Registered with SmartTrace:

1. Log in to Your SmartTrace Account: Log in to your SmartTrace account.
2. Initiate the Transfer: Follow the instructions provided in our guide on How to Register Your Pet’s Microchip on Our Database.

For Microchips Registered with a Different Database:

1. Contact the Current Database: Reach out to the database where the microchip is currently registered and request authorization for the transfer. This process typically involves verifying the current ownership details.

2. Submit Authorization to SmartTrace: Once you’ve received authorization, contact SmartTrace and provide a copy of the authorization document.

3. Wait for Confirmation: SmartTrace will confirm the transfer. Once you receive confirmation, follow the steps outlined in How to Register Your Pet’s Microchip on Our Database to add the microchip to your account.
