If you just got a pet, you need to register it to your name. This article provides instructions on how to do this and ensure that your microchip will be added to your account.
Head over to the SmartTrace's official website at https://smarttrace.org.uk/
1. Click on Login
2. Enter your login information and click "Log in"
3. Click on Register Pet found on the top right part of the website
4. Enter your microchip number and click on Search Microchip
5. Click on Transfer
There are different information shown based on the status of the microchip you are looking for.
Pet Owner Unregistered - this means that the microchip is NOT yet registered with any database. Click the “Register Now” button to proceed with processing your registration.
Microchip registered - No owner details held - this means that the microchip is registered in the SmartTrace database however, it doesn’t have any information. This is normally what you will see when you recently bought your pet from a breeder or got it implanted. Click on the “Proceed” button to start processing your registration.
Microchip details registered - this means that the microchip is registered with keeper details. This is normally what you will see if you adopt or take over the keepership of a pet. To make sure that your pet is registered to you and avoid duplicate registration, please log into your account and check under the “My pets” section. Once confirmed that you need to register it yourself, click on the “Proceed” button to process the microchip transfer.
Microchip found - this means that the microchip is registered with a different database. You will need to contact the current database first to request for a transfer to a different database to register the microchip on SmartTrace.
6. Update the pet name and click next
Please note that you will only be able to update other information after the transfer has been finalised.
7. Review/update your information then click next
8. Choose a payment plan and accept the policies and conditions by clicking the checkboxes.
9. Click on Proceed to Payment
10. Enter your card details and Click on Pay
11. 10. Once payment is processed, the microchip will be parked for transfer for the next 7 days. You will receive an email notification with the provisional certificate and the microchip will reflect in your account after the 7 days.
